Teachers Cry Foul As ZIMSEC Is Yet To Pay Exam Markers' Allowances

Teachers Cry Foul As ZIMSEC Is Yet To Pay Exam Markers' Allowances

Teachers are considering putting in place a committee that will negotiate examiners’ contracts with the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) as the council has delayed paying marking fees.     Teachers who marked last year‘s Grade seven, Advanced and Ordinary level examinations are yet to be paid with markers claiming that they were promised payment soon after completing the job.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) president, Takavafira Zhou accused ZIMSEC of engaging in unfair labour practices. He said:

ZIMSEC is perpetuating cold, callous and calculated labour vandalism that ultimately will affect the credibility of our examination system, as more qualified and experienced examiners may not call for the marking exercise in future due to frustration.

Teachers are workers too, with rights that must be respected by anyone who wants their services. Even the line Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and government must intervene and call ZIMSEC to order.

Teachers are also considering putting in place a committee that should engage ZIMSEC on behalf of markers, and ensure that they are paid their dues by the time they finish marking, as ZIMSEC cannot be trusted to pay teachers timeously once they complete the marking exercise.

Zhou added that delays in paying teachers’ allowances meant that markers would get less than initially agreed considering that inflation is soaring in the country.

Meanwhile, teachers have urged workers across sectors to wear black on Friday to mark the death of the Zimbabwean economy.

They always say, we are a listening gvt? hhhmm is this not flattery and hogwash? ...listen to the grievance of teachers and act accordingly, education is key, teachers must be respected..above all, what teachers are asking for is not something new, just a restoration of usd540..why can't you restore that and bring happiness on them..restore their happiness and they will shut up

_WE WILL FIX THE ECONOMY IN NO TIME!_

*CHAMPION IN Chief PRESIDENT ADVOCATE NELSON '' WAMBA'' CHAMISA*

1/8The economy is tanking and sinking. Zimbabweans are suffering at the hands of bad leadership, poor governance and porous economic policies. As the alternative government, we propose the following to be considered and adopted:

2/8There is a crisis of confidence in the market, citizens are suffering from the price hikes and deepening poverty level. All gvt policies must be demand driven, inclusive &fully consultative. The recent attack on CZI position paper by Gvt is regrettable and must never be tolerated!

3/8 Stop the auction system and go for full dollarisation - this will immediately remove distortions, multiple pricing, arbitrage, secure stability and save exporting companies from imminent collapse and help all businesses and economic agents to preserve capital.

4/8 In line with (3), we should immediately work on a de-dollarisation road map which is inclusive and evidence based and build on consensus as opposed to command economics and threatening businesses with statutory instruments.

5/8Embrace SMART agriculture with a view to foster more active role of the market & gvt providing oversight to minimise distortions caused by agricultural subsidies. The commodity exchange should be used as an effective vehicle for funding & marketing of agricultural commodities.

6/8To address the economic challenges (such exchange rate spiral and inflation) caused by short term finance on infrastructure, gvt must use long long term finance such as diaspora bonds (eg Ethiopia-the Grand Renaissance Dam) and public private partnerships to fund infrastructure

7/8 Stop corruption and save US$2.8bn,being the US$1.8bn through illicit financial flows and US $1bn wasted in state owned enterprises and line ministries). This money,if saved, is a real game changer.Greedy, indiscipline and corruption stand as the biggest threat to the economy!

8/8 We must embrace a genuine social contract, which is inclusive to move forward as a nation. Also Expedite a Pre-Election Pact on elections & reforms, constitutionalism and respect of human rights so we restore our integrity in the family of nations.Genuine dialogue is key!

*ANOTHER LITHIUM MINING STORY *

“I am at Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe.
This company is mining lithium in Arcadia Goromonzi. It used to be owned by an Australian company called Prospect Resources and recently sold to Huayou Cobalt (a Chinese company)

The handover take over ceremony was done on the 20th of April 2022 so now it's 100% owned by the Chinese giant.

The challenge now is this Chinese company is bringing all it's skilled and labour from China on the expense of locals. Right now everyone in the company is deputing a Chinese from Human Resources department to production departments. At the site there are already more 100 Chinese and am reliably informed that about 600 more Chinese are coming.

We the citizens are not going to benefit from this investment at all. The lithium product goes to China and the employees come from China. With this current unemployment rate in Zim this cannot be tolerated.

Please make some noise maybe responsible authorities might look into it and secure Zimbabwean jobs to Zimbabwean citizens.

There's is absolutely no special skill required from China, in actual fact, we training the Chinese and one day they will take over.”

ZIMSEC must not cry foul next time if Examination Markers demand pay upfront next time. They are unreliable employers who thrive in falsehoods.
