Popular Warriors and Dynamos fan Chris ‘Romario’ Musekiwa has urged the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) to ‘swallow their pride’ for Zimbabwe to be readmited into the international football community.
Zimbabwe was suspended by FIFA for “third party interference” when the SRC suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA executive for several violations, chief among them failure to account for public funds.
FIFA have reiterated that the only condition for the sanction to be lifted, is the unconditional reinstatement of the Kamambo-led ZIFA executive.
The SRC has defiantly ignored that condition, saying there are more pressing issues to deal with first but speaking to NewsDay, Musekiwa pleaded with the sports regulatory body to do the ‘right thing’. He said:
The situation with our local football is not pleasing.
It’s high time the SRC swallow their pride and just adhere to what Fifa said so that our football can be saved from imminent total collapse. That is the only way. If SRC do the right thing, it won’t take even 48 hours for us to be reinstated back into the Fifa family.
Due to the suspension, all Zimbabwe national teams and clubs are unable to participate in international and CAF inter-club competitions respectively.
