South African Minister Orders Zimbabwe Bus Company Ban

South African Minister Orders Zimbabwe Bus Company Ban

Rimbi Travel and Tours bus could lose its cross border licence after one of its buses was intercepted in South Africa allegedly carrying illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe.

South Africa’s Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi on Monday expressed anger over Rimbi’s failure to respect the neighbouring country’s laws.

Motsoaledi was at Beitbridge Border Post on Easter Monday to assess the illegal immigration crisis at the end of the holiday period. He said:

I’m irritated because the owners of that bus think we’re clowns in South Africa.

They don’t obey any law whatsoever, they were given a cross border licence by the authorities but they are misusing it.

I’m irritated because very recently they were fined R420 000 for ferrying illegal people in South Africa and that’s the law.

According to the law, they should be paying R15 000 per person but they never paid, and I’m made to understand they are allowed (on the road) yet they never paid.

What’s worse is that the driver doesn’t have a passport. There’s no way in the world a bus driver would be allowed to cross a border without a passport.

I’ve ordered him to be arrested because he is a habitual lawbreaker. That’s undermining a country, that time is over and something serious is going to happen.

Motsoaledi claimed the biggest problem South Africa is facing is that of border jumpers.

He also revealed that 700 illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe and other SADC countries were arrested during the Easter break while trying to sneak into South Africa.

did this bus fly to SA or it went through the border, why doesn't the minister blame his immigration officials who are taking the bribes. I'm certain it's not their first time crossing and it's not the only bus which does that

The South African Minister must also arrest his corrupt immigration officials on the SA side who allow the bus driver who does not have a passport to pass through their border DAILY. The driver must be arrested as well as the immigration officials too. Corruption at the border post is now like a pandemic. As long as you have money you can cross the border without a passport !

At tyms we need to revise our manners as Zimbabweans , have respect of other people's territories, rules n laws how come a company be caught under such silly mistakes we don need to transfer wat we do here to other countries truth will always haunt us as Zimbabweans if we don revise our manners we will find it hard to live next door such are the reasons why Zimbabweans only chased away in SA n not Mozambique, Malawi to mention but a few
