South Africa: ANC Criticises EU For Sanctions On Russia, Rebukes Multichoice For Removing Russian TV

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) party has criticised the European Union for imposing sanctions on Russia describing the decision as “draconian.” Sanctions were imposed after Russia had invaded Ukraine over alleged genocide.

In a statement, seen by Pindula News, ANC  also rebuked Multichoice South for “unilaterally withdrawing Russian TV from its offerings” saying the move has adverse impacts on the freedom of choice to subscribers and limiting their consumption of news on the developments in the Ukraine — Russia conflict. Reads the statement:

ANC STATEMENT ON MULTICHOICE REMOVING RUSSIAN TV FROM ITS PLATFORM

The African National Congress (ANC) notes the draconian decision by the European Union (EU) to impose sanctions on Russia and its entireties including global media organizations following the escalation of hostilities between Ukraine and Russia.

Subsequently, this has resulted in the South African Multichoice platform unilaterally withdrawing Russian TV from its offerings, impacting negatively on the freedom of choice to subscribers and limiting their consumption of news on the developments in the Ukraine — Russia conflict.

The ANC believes that this censorship act done in bad faith during Human Rights Month in South Africa undermines subscribers freedom of association and negatively impacts on the need for plurality of views and media freedom which is sacrosanct and provided for in our constitution.

The reasons conveyed by MultiChoice in seeking to justify this censorship act are quite bizarre and lack any legal and humane justification. Stifling the plurality and diversity of views undermines internationally agreed principles on freedom of speech, choice and association.

The ANC condemns in the strongest terms possible any form of bias by media conglomerates in South Africa which limits the plurality and diversity of views. Even at this late hour, the EU must still provide legal justification for this course of action. Our own competition commission should also act to safeguard the interest of subscribers of Multichoice by quantifying the loss and demanding of such to be reimbursed. The ANC also calls on Multichoice to reconsider its decision of censorship and immediately reinstate Russian TV on its platform.

US invaded Cuba in 1960s because Soviet wanted to build military bases in Cuba and brought about the Cuba missile crisis.

Cuba is few miles away from US. So why should NATO and US build a military base in Ukraine which has a long border with Russia? Putin is not stupid. As it stands now NATO and US are unable to launch direct attack on Russia because of the distance.

Putin knows if NATO and US enters Ukraine and establish military base there Russia is finish.

Additionally, NATO and US breached the 1990 treaty which prevents NATO and US from expanding eastwards from the then East Germany.

Today NATO and US are almost everywhere in Europe including Croatia, Poland and other places that are closer to Russia.

Getting closer to Russia means NATO and US missiles can directly hit Russia.

Putin is not stupid.

Putin had been complaining ever since when those expansions began. No one listened.

Let's take a closer look at NATO and US activities recently:

1) Killed Ghadaffi of Libya for no reason. Libya conflict was entirely internal. Libya a once peaceful and prosperous country today lies in ruins with no sober government.

2) Killed Sadaam of Iraqi and destroyed that beautiful country; lying that Iraqi had weapons of mass destruction. No such weapons were found. Today Iraqi lies in ruins with no sober government.

3) Went to Syria and nearly overthrew Asaad had it not being for Russia. Syria lies in ruin but Asaad is in tact while that country is now the platform for terrorists. Syria conflict is/was entirely an internal problem.

4) Went to a peaceful Afghanistan after the Russians left. Today Afghanistan is a total mess.

If NATO and US not checked they will wake up any morning and decide to change a government anywhere anytime in this world.

My fear:

NATO and US has started sending military logistics to Ukraine. This is dangerous. It may lead to the justification by Russia that NATO and US wants to enter Ukraine so that it can launch attacks on Russia. And when this happens China, India, Syria, Iraqi etc and the bad boy N. Korea those staunched allies to Russia will support Russia.

N.Korea in fact has started last Saturday by testing a ballistic missiles.

It's like we are on the eve of a THIRD WORLD WAR.

The WAY out:
To me is for NATO and US to respect the treaty they SIGNED not to expand eastwards towards Russia...i.e they withdraw all the way to Germany or better still just stop were they are right now.

You can't be piling war armouries in front of my veranda with the aim of attacking me and you expect me to throw picnic for that.

This bitter truth you will not read or see in the western media.

Let me add my cent worth of opinion.
1. America DID NOT invade Cuba in the 1962 Cuban missile crisis. lt threatened to attack and then Kruschev relented and order ed the ships carrying missiles back. USSR wanted to give Castro, a sworn USA enemy, living about 90 miles away, a nuclear bomb. This would have exposed American territory to nuclear attack. Due to advances in technology nuclear bombs can be launched from anywhere to hit any target. They have lCBM ( lnter continental ballistic missiles) capability. ln essence America and NATO don't need Ukraine in order to hit Russia. That can be done from any point on earth. But in 1962, nuclear bombs did not have icbm capability, that is why America threatened to bomb the nuclear launching pads in Cuba. Fortunately common sense prevailed.

@ Gearr. Sorry hako bro. Yes Russia is still intact for now because Ukraine is not invading Russia.

But Russia will not be intact for much longer because the sanctions are beginning to bite. The currency has depreciated by over 60% in 10 days.

Russian assets abroad are frozen. International trade has ground to a halt.

Where and how is Russia going to get the money to continue fighting (10 years according to you)

Talk to me about this in another month

I wish the reasons given to the party by Multichoice were put down for us to read and understand. Is Multichoice getting the Russia TV signal direct, or are they getting it from a third party?I expect South Africa to be on Russia's side, with Brazil, India and China as they all, with Russia, belong to a trade block called BRICS.
