Shona Community In Kenya To Vote For The First Time

Thousands of Shona people in Kenya will vote in elections in the East African country for the first time this Tuesday, 9 August 2022.

The Shona community of Kenya were not allowed to vote in previous elections as they had not been granted full citizenship.

President Uhuru Kenyatta recently approved the Shona people and gave them full Kenyan citizenship to allow them to vote.

More than 22 million Kenyans are registered to vote today in a tightly contested presidential election as Deputy President William Ruto faces veteran opposition politician Raila Odinga.

Ruto who is deputised by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua is contesting the presidency for the first time.

Odinga, who chose Martha Karua of the Azimio la Umoja coalition as his running mate, is contesting for the highest office for the fifth time after unsuccessful attempts in 1997, 2007, 2013 and 2017.

Other candidates in the race to State House are Roots party candidate George Wajackoyah and running mate Justina Wambui and David Mwaure Waihiga deputised by Ruth Mucheru on the Agano Party ticket.

340 candidates have been cleared to contest for 47 Senate seats, with 266 seeking gubernatorial positions in the 47 counties, and another 359 eyeing the 47 Woman Representative seats in the National Assembly.

Outgoing President Kenyatta, who is concluding his second and final term, is backing Odinga, rather than his deputy, Ruto.

Tribalism will kill you before your, disabuse yourself of the pitiful notion that there is part of Zimbabwe which is an enclave of a certain tribe. Ndebele kingdom of Lobengula is gone same with Munhumutapa Kingdom. That region including Bulawayo rightfully belong to BaKalanga who are also custodians of the sacred hills of Matopos, Dula and Emathonjeni. All your rumblings about **** eating in kombi...bla bla NUST Shona students lodging in Selbourne Park clearly shows that you have a tribalistic cranial capacity of an amoeba. I was a student at Bulawayo Polytechnic in 1999 onwards and witnessed primitive tribalistic inclinations of some fools especially when ZAPU 2000 was formed. Tribalism is like riding a tiger, you cannot dismount once you have mounted.

Harare City Council acting Town Clerk is a Ndebele yet you think Bulawayo belongs to a certain tribe. Strive to build yourself rather than corroding your mind with tribalistic noxious sentiments. Your daughter will bring you a Shona grandson. What will you do? Some of us have Ndebele relatives through intermarriages and don't understand such tribalistic rumblings.

Noone ever chose to be a certain tribe, you are simply born into it henceforth noone is entitled to imposing any inferiority complexes on another tribe and its people.

Tribes are simply meant to provide identity and to make matters worse we'll all die and leave these tribes.

If you look at the history of how it all started thats when you will see that it was all meant to provide confusion among people who where initially united for one cause. Basically we are one people with difference in language.

Okukuthi ikhwapha liyanuka angazi ukudobha ngaphi ngoba wonke umuntu ophilayo ikhwapha livele lizanuka mawungaliphathi kuhle. Noone is entitled to this land ngoba sonkenini savela somewhere sibuya la!
