Riot Police Deployed To Beat Protesting ZIMSEC Exam Markers

Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) official Job Sikhala has claimed that riot police was been deployed Monday to beat up teachers marking the ZIMSEC O’ level examination at Midlands State University (MSU) after they protested over unpaid allowances.

He further claimed that the same incident is reported at Mutare poly in Manicaland. He said:

Riot police has been deployed to beat up ‘O’level Examination markers at MSU campus after their 20 000rtgs allowances has not been paid. The same is being reported at Mutare Poly where other markers from Manicaland are based. Why don’t the riot police mark the Exams themselves.

He also posted a video of the examination markers in Masvingo singing denouncing the government after the death of their colleague, allegedly from stress.

Sikhala added that riot police in Bulawayo was deployed at Bulawayo Polytechnic to force teachers to mark Exams.

Meanwhile, Takavafira Zhou, the president of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) has said the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) must stop taking teachers for granted.

He said teachers who checked in for marking as far back as 9 February this year have not been paid their travel and subsistence (T&S), yet, they are not in residential accommodation.

Zhou added that there were reports that examiners were becoming stressed and collapsing and dying because they are being illtreated y ZIMSEC.

Sometimes people allow themselves to be abused. Better you go and sell airtime if these extra ministry duties dont give u anything becoz u are always complaining year after year but you keep going back to those Zimsec people to enslave yourselves. I know it used to be a lucrative venture to be a marker at Zimsec during the Mugabe days but now pple just go there for useless pride and come back empty handed and stressed having been overworked and financially overstretched as the money they spend to go and mark is way above the peanuts they wl receive from Zimsec. My advice is some of these things allow them to pass you if they are not going to reward you for your familys sake.
