Preliminary Findings Of Investigations On Livingstone Sunhwa's Disappearance

Preliminary findings of investigations into the disappearance of Livingstone Sunhwa, a St Mathias Tsonzo High student who went missing on the 6th of December 2021 suggest that he could have died from hanging from a tree. Remains suspected to be his were discovered last week about four meters from a piece of navy blue cloth and a shoelace found hanging from a tree. Below is the report:


On 23 June 2022, a team of detectives from CID Nyanga proceeded to St Mathias Tsonzo High School to make inquiries with the School authorities and the surrounding community.

Edmond Nyamombe Nr 63-629687 C42 aged 58, the senior teacher at the school was seen as the Headmaster was away The senior gave an insight of the arrest and release of the missing person by the police there was no any indication of assault.

Information was received from Linety Chapungu aged 28 of Samushonga village, Chief Mutasa, Mutasa who indicated that sometime in December 2021, while looking for firewood she saw a pair of black school shoes and a belt along Mashorani stream which is about a kilometre from the school.


On 24 June 2022, a follow-up on the given information was made. Linety Chapungu led detectives to Mashorani stream where upon arrival, the following observations were made: –

A pair of size 6 black school shoes with no laces and a while vest inserted in one of the shoes were discovered.

A piece of navy blue cloth and a shoelace were found hanging from a tree about twenty meters from the pair of shoes.

Another shoelace and some suspected human hair were seen under the tree which is about four meters in height.

Suspected human bones and a skull were found scattered about four meters from the tree on which the cloth was found hanging.

A piece of navy blue cloth with a knot was found among the bones.

The pair of school shoes, belt and vest were positively identified by Tapiwa Kabaya aged 17 a form five student at St Mathias Tsonzo High School. Tapiwa Kabaya was a classmate to the missing person and shared the same dormitory.

Scenes of Crime Manicaland and ZRP Mutasa were advised who attended the scene. Scenes of Crime Manicaland recovered the suspected human and conveyed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.


To obtain a Deoxyribonucleic Acid test on the suspected human remains.

To obtain a post-mortem report.
