Full statement by the Clerk of Parliament Kennedy Chokuda on the Pre-Budget Seminar being held in Victoria Falls.
Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen.
I am happy to update the nation with regards to preparations for the Pre-Budget Seminar which is pencilled for Victoria Falls commencing 22nd to 26 October 2021.
Preparations are at an advanced stage and final modalities are being put in place for the successful hosting of the Seminar.
A Pre-Budget Seminar is an event carried out yearly by Parliament encapsulating the three major roles of oversight, legislative and representation.
The Seminar also provides a platform for MPs to interact with the Executive and present findings from the Budget Consultations conducted across the country.
As part of citizen participation in the budget formulation process, earlier on in the month, Parliament of Zimbabwe through the Portfolio Committee on Budget.
Finance and Economic Development and the Expanded Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Committee conducted pre-Budget consultations around the country soliciting for citizens’ expectations and priority areas for the upcoming 2022 Budget. The constitution compels Parliament to consult the general public on such matters.
We remain thankful to the general public for their participation and contribution to this budget consultation exercise.
The Pre-Budget Seminar will be addressed by the Speaker of Parliament Hon. Advocate Jacob Francis Nzwidamilimo Mudenda.
The conference will be held under the theme: “Reinforcing Sustainable Recovery and Resilience.”
Cognisant of the existence of the COVID-19 pandemic amongst us, the Seminar will be held under strict COVID-19 protocols. Masks, sanitisers have been procured, whilst social distancing will be observed.
All MPs, Parliament staff, members of the Media will be screened for the virus prior to the event. Valid COVID-19 free certificates will be produced for one to access the venues.
Meanwhile, may I take this opportunity to encourage the citizens to be alive to the fact that COVID-19 is real and we are not yet out of the woods, we urge every eligible member of society to get vaccinated for the country to achieve herd immunity.
