Pakistan Prime Minister Tests Positive For COVID-19 For A Third Time

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus and was feeling unwell, a day after returning from London.

It was the third time that Sharif had tested positive for COVID-19. He had previously tested for the virus in June 2020 and then in January this year.

Pakistani’s Information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb asked the nation in a tweet on Tuesday to pray for the 71-year-old leader’s quick recovery.

Sharif travelled earlier this month to the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where he participated at the annual United Nations climate summit, known as COP27.

From Egypt, he travelled to London on a private trip to see his older brother, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Prime Minister Sharif had extended his London stay after feeling a slight fever while there and returned to his home country on Monday.

Sharif took over from cricket star-turned-politician Imran Khan after his removal from office in April through a no-confidence vote in parliament. | Al Jazeera
