"Our Army Is The Best, No Need For Security Sector Reforms," - Mutsvangwa

ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa, who is also national chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association, has said there is no need for security sector reforms in Zimbabwe as “our army is the best.”

The opposition has been pushing for security sector reforms accusing state security departments of being biased toward the ruling party.

Addressing a ZANU PF Press conference in Harare last Friday, Mutsvangwa pledged war veterans’ support to the ruling party. NewsDay Zimbabwe quotes him as saying:

We are delighted as war veterans; we are going to make sure that we support you (ZANU PF). We are also aware that we have a very proud umbilical connection to our friends in the armed forces. We have the best army in the world. We have remained there to make sure that we have the best army in the world. We are always conscious of the role they are playing in defending our nation and making sure that we keep the enemies at bay.

We will not brook those who say there must be security sector reforms, our army is the best. We want to send a very strong warning to the opposition that the boys and girls are back in town.

Zimbabwe National Army spokesperson Colonel Alphios Makotore yesterday refused to comment on Mutsvangwa’s claims. Makotore said:

Mutsvangwa is a politician, therefore, the army does not comment on political issues.

In past elections, the army and war veterans have been accused of helping sustain ZANU PF rule through violence against members of the opposition and civilians.

Army generals are on record stating that they will never salute any president without liberation war credentials.

The army’s top leadership is composed of former fighters in the liberation struggle or those closely related to war veterans and political elites.

Some military men retire and join ZANU PF as politicians. These include Vice President Constantino Chiwenga who was at the helm of the army when the late former president Robert Mugabe was ousted in 2017.

@Ghetto Yut. The security Services/Sector of Zimbabwe consists of the Defence Forces, the Police Service, the Intelligence Services, the Prisons & Correctional Services & any other security service establish by law in Zimbabwe.

Security sector has everything to do with the ministry of defense and hence the army and air force are part and parcel of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) as important elements thereof

The best in terms of fighting opposition political foes, not armed enemies
The majority of the soldiers haven't even touched a simple GPS device, they still do manual tracking, and is under sanctions, even Namibia's army is now ranked better than Zimbabwe's and some cant even remember the last time they fired a rifle. They are effective in dealing with unarmed civilians and morale is low due to poor salaries no soldier is immune to the economic hardships

Best army in the world kkkk which world is this old man talking about? The Zim army has nothing from trucks to fighter. This guy must stop smoking weed. The Zim army is 100 years behind in terms of everything

Worzell Gummidge 1 month ago

Yes, the Zim Army is the best/beast. The best at committing armed robberies using service AK47s while on duty. Something which only happens in Zimbabwe as far as I know. Yes. They are the best at deserting with services pistols & rifles over poor pay & illegally crossing to SA where they commit armed robberies. They are the best at shooting unarmed civilians at a 45 degree angle. Yes they are the best at using military tanks to remove one senile & decrepid old man from power using the nations whole ****nal. They are the best at grooming an incurably Dyslexic General who is still struggling to understand letters of the alphabet & imposing him as vice President. Yes the Zim Army is the best...

War veteran Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa is blindfolded. There is no board or army in the world which does not need reforms at one time or the other. otherwise it shall be redundant at some point.

ZNA members attend ZANU PF rallies where they brandish their AK rifles and shout to the citizens that "AK RIFLE IS MIGHTIER THAN THE PEN". This behaviour must be reformed, Chris Mutsvangwa.

At the time of mayham in Zimbabwe in 2018, women folks were raped by members of the security agents. That must be reformed War Veteran Mutsvangwa.

During the same period many reports of assault from citizens by members of the security agents were received. That must be reformed Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa.

Yours sincerely
