Mwonzora Speaks On Prospects Of Working With CCC, Chamisa

Opposition MDC-T leader, Senator Douglas Mwonzora has said he is open to the idea of working with the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa adding that the condition is โ€œtheir attitude towards us.โ€

He made the remarks during a press conference at the Morgan Tsvangirai House formerly Harvest House.

The presser is held in the aftermath of the 26 March 2022 by-elections in which the party failed to record a single win.

There were 28 National House of Assembly and 121 local government seats up for grabs. Addressing reporters, Mwonzora said:

The MDC has always said that it is prepared to work with all progressive forces for the total liberation of our people, fir the total democratisation of Zimbabwe.

Regarding specifically working with Advocate Chamisa and his team, a lot depends of course on them and their attitude towards us.

Speaking on the loss, Mwonzora said the party will go back to the drawing board and re-strategise. He said they got their strategy wrong. He said:

Lionel Messi misses a penalty. Maradona misses a penalty. So strategists can get strategies wrong as well.

We are also going to look at other things like messaging, the particular strategy we adopted in this election which is different from the strategy we have used traditionally. We got our strategy wrong.

Meanwhile, some parties in the MDC Alliance attribute the loss to his approach.

Zimbabwe People First Secretary-General, Marakia Bomani earlier told Pindula News that Mwonzora made unilateral decisions that in the end cost the alliance.

Pity. @ Shadows 65% of the electorate disagree with you about ZANU. Only 35% have faith in ZANU.

In other words 2 out of every 3 people like CCC. That's a proven fact coming from Saturday's plebiscite

Nzvonyora, you are the prime mover behind MDC Alliance being sidelined from parliament. You are the reason why ZANU has got away with murder in parliament.
You are the reason why the opposition has been silenced in parliament.
You are the reason why we had these expensive by-elections. You are the reason why we have a fragmented MDC.

And now you tell us you want to work with Chamisa! Only because you got 0% on Saturday? Nzvonyora, wakasiirwa danga risina mombe, danga rine ndove. Waakuda kuzora CCC ndove yako? And you want CCC to work with you on your own terms?

CCC doesn't need you. After Saturday's showing, I bet you have lost any pretence to legitimacy. Your usefulness to ZANU is over. You are out in the cold.

The MDC Undertaker is dead and buried.
