Motorists Forced To Pay Fines For Using 'Expired' Temporary Number Plates
Motorists complain that they continue to be harassed by police officers for using expired temporary number plates, this notwithstanding that the government has extended the lifespan of the plates indefinitely.
The plates are normally valid for two weeks but the government extended the period indefinitely due to a shortage of number plates. Police officers manning Harare’s roadblocks, however, are apparently unaware of the changes.
Motorists who spoke to the Daily News expressed disappointment for having to pay fines for using the temporary plates.
One of my friends was recently arrested by traffic police for using expired temporary plates yet we are told they now have an indefinite life-span.
Thirty dollars is a lot of money especially considering that permanent plates are going for around $80 swipe, so we would really appreciate the implementation of this extension.

… In the near future, we will end up parking our new vehicles because the temporary plates are not readily available as the government makes it seem. It would be much better if our government worked towards ensuring that number plates can be manufactured in Zimbabwe.
