MDC Alliance Plans To Field Electable Candidates

MDC Alliance Plans To Field Electable Candidates

The MDC Alliance is developing a new candidate selection template to use in candidate selection for the 2023 harmonised elections and beyond.

The party’s deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba yesterday told The Standard that if the template is adopted, the MDC Alliance will choose its 2023 contenders outside its structures in consultation with community members.

He said the party will select its council and parliamentary candidates in 2022, a year before the next elections to give the contenders ample campaign time. Said Siziba:

We are basically strengthening the deployment of candidates because the key objective to be achieved by this template is to make sure that we deploy people that are committed to serving and wanted by the grassroots and community leaders outside our party structures.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that the template, which is being crafted by the MDC Alliance elections directorate led by Ian Makone, is being frowned upon by mostly sitting legislators, councillors and other top officials who fear being side-lined once the proposal is adopted.

This comes after opposition voters have raised concern over some sitting legislators and councillors’ lack of visibility in their constituencies.

Analysts have warned the MDC Alliance that it risked alienating the party from its grassroots support base if it adopted an “elitist template”. Analyst Effie Ncube said:

It may have the unintended consequences of derailing the party from its goal of securing the seat of government because those you consider to be the least educated and the unemployed for example are the most enthusiastic of the support base of the MDC.

It creates an elitist approach to politics, something that is completely unwarranted.

THIS IDEA OF USING A PREPARED TEMPLATE CAN NOT BE WHOLLY DISMISSED. BUT ALLOW ME TO ADVISE MDC ALLIANCE ON SOME REASONS WHY CHAMISA NARROWLY DEFEATED PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA OR WHY PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA NARROWLY DEFEATED PRESIDENT CHAMISA IN 2018.

[1 ] MDC ALLIANCE SHOULD DEPLOY ENOUGH POLLING AGENTS AT ALL POLLING STATIONS. IN 2018 THEY FAILED TO DEPLOY AT ABOUT 20% POLLING STATIONS. THIS IS WHY THEIR GOOD LAWYERS FAILED TO ACCOUNT FIGURES AT SOME POLLING STATIONS AT THE CONCOURT.

[2] THEY MUST FEED THEIR POLLING AGENTS ADEQUATELY. THERE WERE RUMOURS TRULY OR FALSELY THAT AT SOME POLLING STATIONS THEIR POLLING AGENTS WERE FED BY ZANU PF AGENTS !!!!! YES, I AM TOLD SUPA MANDIWANZIRA FED SOME IN HIS CONSTITUENCY KKKK.

[3] THEY MUST VET THEIR POLLING AGENTS STRICTLY BECAUSE THEY MAY RECRUIT MEN AND WOMEN WHO MAY BE MANIPULATED EASILY WITH PIECES OF SILVER AND FOOD.

[4] IN THE PAST MDC ALLIANCE USED TO CHICKEN OUT TO CAMPAIGN IN RURAL AREAS. THIS TIME MASAMBA ASIYANA. CHAMISA HAS STARTED GOING INTO RURAL AREAS AT FULL THROTTLE, BUT IN COMPLIANCE WITH COVID19 PROTOCOLS. ZANU PF HAS ALSO STARTED TO DISTURB AND DISORIENTATE MDC ALLIANCE ACTIVITIES IN RURAL AREAS.

[5] MDC ALLIANCE SHOULD AVOID DOUBLE CANDIDATES IN CERTAIN CONSTITUENCIES LIKE WHAT THEY DID IN 2018. THEY FIELDED DOUBLE CANDIDATES IN MORE THAN 10 CONSTITUENCIES. A GOOD AND GLARING EXAMPLE IS IN HARARE SOUTH WHERE MDC ALLIANCE FIELDED MASHAYAMOMBE AND ANOTHER AGAINST ZANU PF'S MNANGAGWA. MASHAYAMOMBE POLLED OVER 26000 AND THE OTHER MDC CANDIDATE POLLED OVER 6000. A MNANGAGWA FOR ZANU PF POLLED OVER 28000 AND WAS DECLARED THE WINNER, YET MASHAYAMOMBE AND ANOTHER MDC ALLIANCE CANDIDATE POLLED OVER 34000 ALTOGETHER !!!!! MDC ALLIANCE, STOP THIS DEBACLE.

IT PAINS US YOUR TRUE SUPPORTERS TO BE DEFEATED BY ZANU PF BECAUSE YOU HAVE MADE THESE AVOIDABLE MISTAKES.

YOURS SINCERELY
