Mavima Criticised For His Remarks On NGOs

Mavima Criticised For His Remarks On NGOs

Civil Society organisations have criticised Midlands Provincial Affairs minister Larry Mavima for saying non-governmental organisations (NGOs) operating in the country should go and render their services in Ukraine.

Ukraine is a country in Eastern Europe that has been under constant shelling and heavy bombardment from nuclear-armed Russia since 24 February this year.

Speaking during a devolution meeting in Gweru at the weekend, Mavima said local authorities should de-register NGOs that fail to comply with restrictions on their activities.

Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum (The Forum) director Musa Kika said that the Government needs NGOs to operate successfully. He said:

The government is being short-sighted and is choosing perceived political expediency over livelihoods, economic well-being, strengthened governance and all that civil society represents.

We have no precedent anywhere in the world where the government operates successfully without civil society, bearing in mind that civil society is the people, citizens self-organising over issues of community and national importance.

There is no sustainability in what the government is doing, so the comments attributed to the minister (Mavima) are unfortunate.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) spokesperson Obert Masaraure said it is unfortunate that Zimbabwe has “misguided” people like Larry Mavima in leadership positions. Said Masaraure:

I think Mavima is highly misguided. It’s unfortunate that Zimbabwe has such people as leaders who say a country doesn’t need NGOs; a country with more than 7,9 million people living in poverty doesn’t need NGOs?

Even if you go to stable developed countries, they still have NGOs. He doesn’t appreciate the role of NGOs.

What Mavima doesn’t pick is that there is a lot of humanitarian work that is being done by NGOs.

They are feeding thousands of people who cannot afford to get a meal and are sending a lot of dropouts back to school.

Mnangagwa Bans Yellow School Uniforms?

7 March 2022

Tinashe Sambiri

Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has ordered schools with yellow uniforms to change colour.

According to Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe coordinator, Harrison Mudzuri, government has directed teachers not to wear anything yellow.

“It is shocking that the govt of Zimbabwe has ordered teachers NOT to wear anything yellow.

Schools with yellow uniforms have been directed to change them.

No explanation was given for these verbal directives,” Mudzuri tweeted.

Due to the number of insults in the comment section we will be asking members to complete a simple registration in the hope that people might think twice before bombarding fellow members with insults the likes of which we never anticipated when we created this platform

Great idea team pindula, if someone has a point to comment on and share thre is no need of insults in an foam but if the comment worth to be submitted here I don't see any reason not to complete the needed registration, also those supporting tribalism here shame on them !! we are all Zimbabweans !!! Ndebeles-Shonas what for!!!? Busy talking about each in a tribal manner but no one knew each other face to face or other way round why!? Hate the way McKenzie responds to Sonia comment if McKenzie did not want Sonia support just bcz she's of shona tribe why does he post his comment on a platform he knew everyone can read it respond to it regardless of which tribe? Some sent vulgar words what an inhumane this platform is free and some readers are as young as 14 yrs old what are we seeding in their minds as the next generation if we talk to each other valgaly?,My fellow citizens to build a sharp n bright future for yrself, the nation, family upto next generation begins with us through what we do and say all the time ,feel for someone what you feel for yourself. Remember what you say nometer how far are you or how u can hide and the way you say it tells us how your dirty mind is or how genuine your mind is .
