Scores of people have in the past lost money and other valuables to armed robbers who offer transport in unmarked vehicles.

While some of the robbers are being arrested, some are still at large.

The robbers are taking advantage of the shortage of public transport, an issue that worsened when private-owned commuter omnibuses (kombis) were banned from roads as a measure to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Authorities have indicated that they will not allow kombis on the streets again, even if the coronavirus goes away.
