Man (48) Sentenced To 10 Years In Jail For Stealing TelOne Pole

A Harare magistrate has sentenced a 48-year-old Harare man to an effective 10 years in prison for stealing a telecommunication pole valued at $24 650.

Karakadzai Mwashairei, a Mbare resident, pleaded guilty when he appeared before magistrate Ignition Mhene.

Prosecuting, Shepherd Makonde said on 5 September 2021, at around 3 AM, a security guard, Rachiel Chikomba, spotted Mwashairei cutting a pole carrying telecommunication wires.

Chikomba was on duty at the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA)’s transport premises along Lytton Road when she witnessed the incident.

The court heard that Chikomba alerted members of the public, who assisted her to apprehend the accused person and recovered a hacksaw and two pieces of the pole.

Mwashairei was taken to CID Minerals Flora and Fauna Unit Harare.

The accused wanted to cut the pole into pieces, split the pieces and sell the splits as firewood. It has now cost him mandatory sentence of 10 years in which he will rot in Chikurubi Maximum Prison.

Poor guy.
He was probably trying to get wood to cook his sadza. Too poor to afford gas and electricity. Now having to spend the rest of his useful life behind bars.

Yet the big looters, who steal billions of dollars walk scot free and are big wigs in ZANU government, so fat they don't have necks, heads joined to torso by bulbous fat, bulging stomachs that make them look like pregnant women. Eish, this country my brother.

and this poor man now has to spend the rest of his useful life behind bars. Travesty of justice
