Majority Of Zimbabweans Still Trust ED - Afrobarometer

Majority Of Zimbabweans Still Trust ED - Afrobarometer

Fifty-one (51) per cent of Zimbabweans still trust President Emmerson Mnangagwa to lead the country despite expressing unhappiness about the ailing economy, an Afrobarometer round 9 survey has established.

This was revealed during a Mass Public Opinion Institute (MPOI) meeting in Bulawayo on Tuesday.

The survey principal Stephen Ndoma said he used a sample size of 1 200 citizens, adding that his study had an error rate of +/-3 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Said Ndoma:

The majority (64%) being those with primary or no formal education followed by 58% of those of no or low lived poverty and the least is those living in high poverty who constitute 40% said they trust the President, but 42% of those living in the urban areas say they do not trust the President.

The findings of the survey were carried out from 2017 to 2022.

Ndoma said 94% of people in Harare and 82% in Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South were not happy with the state of the economy.

They said the Government was performing “fairly bad” or “very bad” on key economic issues.

87% of the respondents said the government was failing to keep prices stable, 86% said the Government was failing to create jobs while 79% said authorities had failed to narrow the gap between the rich and poor.

Almost three-quarters (72%) of citizens said the country was going in the wrong direction, according to the survey. Said Ndoma:

Nearly eight in 10 citizens (78%) say the country’s economic condition is either ‘fairly bad’ or ‘very bad’, while 64% describe their living conditions in the same way.

If u carry out a survey in Police camp what do u expect the respondents to say. If u in your survey ask any one at random wearing dark glasses and black suit the interviewees will suspect that u are state spooks and will give affirmative replies. But if you go to Mabvuku pachibhorani chakaiswa naScott the women there will unanimously echo your desired outcome. But the truth lies in the heart & none of you experts can get empirical evidence from the heart. For the pregnant truth is out of every 10 people u interview today 9 unongonzwa vachiti dayi Mwari vapindira. Mumwoyo vachingoti dai apinda hake blazi.

Not for or against the title but this story is not clear. It is separating ED from the government. From this story the masses are blaming the government, but trusting the head of the same Government.
I give the story 49% pass mark is 45% and above is a pass

@Chimbodza. You seem to lack an understanding of Statistics & research methodologies. Surveys can be manipulated by creatively & selectively targeting participants who will give you an intended response. Academics are the biggest crooks. Take their word with a pinch of salt. Academics are responsible for deliberately wiping out your savings & pensions & bamboozling you with convoluted jargon. Whenever there are cases of Fraud it's mostly the learned Accountants/Academics who cook up numbers while syphoning large sums into their pockets. If academics were so competent, then how come we're sinking deeper into an economic quagmire, with our Doctors & professors of economics at the helm?

Chimbodza Chepizza 3 weeks ago

Learn to accept survey results from our Academics. They are professionals in their field. They decide on survey period and sample size.

The last election results saw CCC win around 70% against zanupf so this poll is just wishful thinking. Like ZEC it cannot be trusted.

sekuru waBona 3 weeks ago

gents don't be blindsided by the bi elections

that was zec-zanu experimenting with the rigging machinery

look here truth be told if one takes a careful analysis of the results it's the opposition that lost why l say so coz inspite of ccc being a new party it's the brand chamisa that carries the day

now look here ccc wins a seat polling 8000 and zanu lost with 6000 in an area considered to be an opposition strong hold whereby zanu used to poll less furthermore zanu took two seats from the opposition areas

look carefully gents ,the opposition was quick to celebrate but didn't look at the bigger picture which is that by accepting the results u gave credibility to zec this come 2023 vanenge voti kana madyiwa munoramba maresults asi mabi elections makabvuma coz makange mahwina

the bis we rigged in favor of the ruling party in preparation of 2023

mark my words

Worzell Gummidge 3 weeks ago

On the contrary, the by-election results are a harbinger/forerunner of things to come. Take into account the feavour & excitement generated by the CCC in a short period of under three months. And consider the uneven playing field. Also recall that the CCC had no funding, did not bus anyone to their rallies & was systematically oppressed by the state security apparatus. Lastly, don't forget that that was just a by-election. Imagine what fireworks will be ignited by the CCC in a general election.

chifuse 3 weeks ago

don't read too much in the bielection results, mind you those were mdc/ccc seats which came about after recalls and for zanupf to win 2 seats is a plus to them.

Worzell Gummidge 3 weeks ago

Someone was probably bribed to manufacture such a glaring mathematical falsehood. ZESN used to do the same after money had changed hands & some people became millionaires. The idea is to justify electoral theft in 2023 by quoting the bogus results of a fake survey. If the CIO allegedly TOLD ED that he has become unpopularly & will lose the 2023 elections, then one needs to look no further. The survey was conducted over 5 years, from 2017 - 2022. A lot has changed since then & some of the participants have changed their minds or have died due to the harsh realities of our situation. The results are irreconcilable. If it takes 5 years to capture a sample of 1 200 survey subjects, then MPOI/Afrobarometer is grossly incompetent. A week is long enough to capture such a tiny sample. True surveys are conducted in real time in order for them to be accurate.

Machiavelli 3 weeks ago

Well argued @Worzell. Any well structured survey has to take into account changes over time. So much has changed in the past 4years. Hence to be valid, they should have used RATS (Regression Analysis and Time Series) methodology, to validate observations and not just a one time survey

I agree with your observations. Nobody loves Ed

Machiavelli 3 weeks ago

At 1,200 the sample is too small to be representative of 15 million people.
Furthermore it is skewed towards rural population. I wonder how representative it is of the voting public (age segmentation), and gender (remember (older) women are more likely to be for the regime

I would rather be guided by the results of the last by-elections
