Major Hospitals Without Substantive CEOs For Two Years

Major Hospitals Without Substantive CEOs For Two Years

The country’s major hospitals have been operating with acting CEOs for nearly two years despite the health services board (HSB) conducting interviews.

In 2020, the Ministry of Health and Child Care retired five CEOs at Zimbabwe’s major public hospitals.

The Ministry said it was reforming how hospital CEOs are appointed, with a new requirement that they should be senior medical doctors.

HSB conducted interviews in June 2020 to replace them but two years later, the hospitals are still being led by acting CEOs.

A senior doctor told ZimLive that the Government’s failure to appoint substantive CEOs hinders long-term planning at the institutions. Said the doctor:

It’s not the way to run public hospitals, especially during a time of multiple crises when the hospital leadership must have the flexibility and authority to make tough decisions in the interests of public health.

Dr Michael Chiwanga is acting CEO at Chitungwiza Central Hospital, Dr Christopher Pasi is in temporary charge at Sally Mugabe Hospital, while Dr Narcisious Dzvanga is the acting CEO of the United Bulawayo Hospitals.

Prof Solwayo Ngwenya is in caretaker charge at Mpilo Central Hospital, Dr Nemache Mawere is holding station at Ingutsheni Central Hospital and Dr Aspect Maunganidze is acting CEO at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

So now back to the story. So 2 zimbabweans Professsor Kingston Kajese and Paul Chimbodza get a lithium claim . They inturn sell 87% of the claim to an Australian company ( prospect resources). So far no mining is done .
The Australian company then sells the lithium mine to a Chinese firm .
The Chinese mine huayou pays $422 million for the mine. Of the $422 million $388 goes to the Australian mine and $44 million shared between chimbodza and kajese. The president approves the deal.
In one move zimbabwe has just sold one of the most strategic mineral to the Chinese with no gain for the country ( Australia gains $388 million while 2 zimbos get $44 million).
Now here is why as a country we are ****. The future is electric cars and solar energy both which require lithium.
The price of lithium is now $17 000usd per tonne .
The Chinese mine has said it intends to mine 2.4 million tonnes a year . This translates to $4.1billion usd a year or $342 million usd a month .
Remember they bought the mine for $422 million. Within 1 month the Chinese would have returned what they paid .
So why did our government allow such a **** deal when in Zimbabwe we have to import lithium batteries from South Africa?.
Why could our government not see the same potential the Chinese saw .
Instead we could have easily partnered with Tesla to mine the lithium and manufacture lithium batteries in Zimbabwe while partnering local companies such as exide.
Kajese and zimbodza are the only 2 zimbabweans to benefit from this .
Most of the employment generated will go to Chinese nationals . We will be left only with a destroyed and polluted environment.
How can we be so **** as a nation .
