Magaisa Says Police Targeting Certain Car As Operation On Vehicles With No Plates Continues

Alex Tawanda Magaisa, a former Chief of Staff in the office of a former Prime Minister, the late Morgan Tsvangirai, believes the Zimbabwe Republic Police might be targeting specific individual(s) through the operation on vehicles with no number plates. He was commenting on a police update that observed that some prominent persons and political figures were not displaying plates on their cars. In a statement seen by Pindula News, police said they will impound such vehicles and ensure that the law takes its course. Reads the statement:

ZRP UPDATE ON OPERATION TARGETING VEHICLES WITH NO NUMBER PLATES

The Zimbabwe Republic Police reminds the public that the operation targeting vehicles which are moving on the country’s roads without displaying registration plates or being registered in terms of the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act Chapter 13:14 is continuing. Since 15th January 2022, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has accounted for 43 108 vehicles throughout the country. The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned by the conduct of some motorists or vehicle owners who are driving posh and lavish vehicles on the roads and parking them in public places whilst clearly not displaying number plates. This conduct is also being exhibited by some prominent persons and political figures.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police will impound such vehicles and ensure that the law takes its course. No excuses will be entertained by police officers on checkpoints, roadblocks and other law enforcement sites.

The Police reminds motorists that it is a legal requirement for all vehicles on the roads and public places to be registered in order to vehicles on the roads and public places to be registered in order to curb cases of criminals who are taking advantage to commit robbery, murder, rape, hit and road traffic accidents and other cases.

In response, Magaisa said, “Even kindergarteners can tell whose car you are targeting.”

His remarks come after reports that Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, has been using plateless vehicles to outsmart state security agents who were reportedly planning to intercept him as he toured the country.
