About
CeSHHAR is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual to fill the above-mentioned post under a project that will be implemented within the SRH group of studies. The specific project where this vacancy has fallen is aimed at evaluating different ways of providing COVID-19 testing services, including use of rapid antigen tests for COVID-19 self-testing. The evaluation entails analysis of data from specific programmes that implement COVID-19 testing services and qualitative research among individuals who interact with the programmes.
Job role
- Working as part of a team, the Research Coordinator / Social Scientist will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the research activities according to protocol and regulatory requirements;
- He / she will also be responsible for collecting good quality qualitative data, data analysis and report writing;
- Assisting investigators in the development of research protocols;
- Assisting in the development and translation of research documents such as informed consent forms and data collection tools;
- Obtaining regulatory and ethical approvals for the study;
- Formulating standard operating procedures to ensure that research activities are conducted according to protocol, ethical and regulatory requirements;
- For qualitative studies: recruitment of participants, data collection and analysis;
- Dissemination of research findings, including through progress reports, manuscripts and presentation at community meetings and scientific conferences;
- Maintenance of study records; Managing project supplies, including ordering and keeping an organized inventory;
- Training and supervision of research staff on protocol requirements, standard operating procedures and day-to-to project implementation;
- Any other research roles as may be assigned by the Principal Investigator.
Qualifications and experience
- A Master’s degree in social science, Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology or related fields;
- At least two years’ experience conducting qualitative, quantitative and participatory health-related research;
- Evidence of contributing to peer-reviewed journal articles.
- Evidence of lead authorship an added advantage;
- Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively as part of a research team;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to understand / speak Shona an added advantage; Project management experience, including managing a field team;
- Capacity to conduct trainings and capacity development with others in the team;
- Computer competency particularly with Microsoft Office packages;
- Ability to work with people from various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds;
- Familiarity with qualitative data handling software.
