Job Description
Kuvimba Mining House is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to fill the Mining Engineer position which has arisen at Sandawana mine.
The Mining Engineer will be responsible for the mine design and mine planning as an input for the mining contractors. The incumbent will also provide oversight and technical support to ensure the mining production requirements are met, in the short, medium and long term. The mining contractors will report to the Mining Engineer to ensure the mining contracts are executed efficiently and safely.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Mine designing, pit optimisation and provide input to the feasibility studies.
- Developing and implementing short term, medium term and life of mine planning.
- Ensuring regulatory compliance at the mining operations.
- Cost management and budget controls of the mining operations.
- Ensuring health and safety of all mining employees.
- Implementing and monitoring of the Environmental Management Program at the mining operations.
- Management of the mining contractors against the mine plan and contractual volumes.
- Blasting optimization with a specific focus to improve grade control and optimizing milling efficiency.
- Engagement with relevant Government stakeholders as it relates to the mining operations.
- Risk management of the mining operations.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Ensuring that the mine operates efficiently and synergistically.
- Management of the mining contractors against the mine plan and contractual volumes.
- Develop annual budget (financial & production), maintain and update forecast.
- Maintaining short and long term mine plan, matching mine production to the plan.
- Communicating the changing mine conditions to relevant departments regarding material quality.
- Overseeing mine survey activities and update mine maps as required.
- Reconciling tonnage estimates from ore reserves to the mine plan with production performance.
- Optimising the mining operation in terms of contractors, material, manpower, fuel, work hours and equipment availability.
- Optimising reliability and maintenance through technical solutions by supporting studies and implementing projects.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Mining Engineering.
- At least 10 years working experience in a hard rock opencast and underground mining Mining contractor management experience.
- Experience in mine design and mine planning.
