Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably experienced and qualified candidates for the above position that has become vacant within the Gonarezhou Conservation Trust. IT Technician will be expected to perform on-site technical work, repairs, diagnostics, installations and maintenance of computer and network equipment and software applications.IT Technician will be reporting to the Works Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Installing and upgrading computers and peripherals throughout the park.
  • Relocating computer hardware and peripherals as needed.
  • Installing and configuring softwares as needed.
  • Organizing and scheduling software upgrades and hardware maintenance in a structured way.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting computer systems including printers, terminals, personal computers, and cameras.
  • Servicing equipment according to established preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Maintaining accurate updated records of preventive maintenance on computer hardware and peripherals.
  • Maintaining accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.
  • Conducting regular data backups to protect the organization’s information.
  • Creating and maintaining of software backups.
  • Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing of data communications circuits (Radio, WIFI, LoRaWAN) and equipment.
  • Installing network cabling and network peripherals throughout the park i.e Radio, WIFI and LoRaWAN network.
  • Programming Motorola radios, repeater maintenance and troubleshooting, monitoring of the network.
  • Evaluating network performance and if needed, find ways of improvement of Radio, WIFI and LoRaWAN.
  • Testing signal strength for Radio, WIFI and LoRaWAN using testing equipment, range testing on the handheld radios and WIFI speed testing.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting network systems and servers, including the local LoRa WAN server.
  • Organizing and scheduling upgrades and maintenance in a structured way.
  • Maintaining accurate updated records of preventive maintenance on network hardware.
  • Maintaining all power stations and network towers in good condition.
  • Maintaining accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.
  • Creating and maintaining of network setting backups.
  • Maintaining security of networks – including regular WIFI password changes.
  • Maintaining Current Anti-Virus Software.
  • Providing technical direction to co-workers on computer and network usage and offer comprehensive advice and instructions.
  • Following established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, and carrying.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in IT/Computer Science or similar recognized tertiary qualification.
  • 3 years’ experience in an IT/Computer Science environment; installing, maintaining, and repairing computers and peripherals.
  • Knowledge of computer workstation setup, knowledge on computer hardware and software applications.
  • Ability to install, maintain, and repair computers and peripherals, including printers, modems, and scanners.

  • Licenses – The position requires a class 2 driver’s license,
  • Physical abilities – Climbing, stooping, bending, and kneeling: frequent use of small hand tools and electronic test equipment, frequent park travel.

Built on the back of a strong relationship developed over 9 years of support by FZS for Gonarezhou, the Trust is directly responsible for management of the Park for a period of 20 years, and became fully operational on 1st March 2017
