Finance and Balance of Payments Statistics Manager (Grade E4) - Zimstat

Location: Harare

Job Purpose

The job holders will be charged with the responsibility of managing, coordinating and production of a wide range of high quality statistics through surveys. 

Reporting to: Director-Macroeconomics 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Produce Government Finance Statistics using Central and Local Government Statistics.
  • Produce data on financial institutions and insurance institutions at current and constant prices for use in national accounts.
  • Conduct surveys on annual Parastatals, Quoted Companies and Non Profit Institutions Serving Households and produce data at current and constant prices for use in national accounts.
  • Compile quarterly data on monetary statistics and debt statistics to feed into national accounts statistics.
  • Compile a monthly Summary of External Trade Statistics report using trade data.
  • Conduct annual surveys on Foreign Private Capital (FPC), Foreign Affiliates, terms of trade and Small Scale Cross Border Survey to feed data into the Balance of Payments and national accounts.
  • Produce terms of trade indices using eurotrace data.
  • Determine appropriate methodology and dissemination methods for each specific statistical system.
  • Monitor and Evaluate statistical activities and expenditures in the department.
  • Represent the department at local, regional and international meetings.
  • Provide data to users of statistics.
  • Strategic planning and budgeting for the Section.
  • Provide technical and administrative oversight over the department.

Qualifications and attributes

  • Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Financial Statistics or equivalent
  • A Master's Degree in the relevant discipline is a must.
  • Experience working in trade, poverty, prices, finance, national accounts and economic analysis disciplines.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience of which five must be at senior level.
  • Must be a good team leader
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
