Summary

The Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare of the Republic of Zimbabwe in partnership with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Rwanda under the auspices of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 23rd December 2021, is recruiting competent Zimbabwean educational personnel to be employed in Rwanda. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage in teaching and learning activities at the undergraduate and/or master's levels.
  • Plan, prepare and develop materials, design teaching and assessment strategies, and deliver teaching in academic settings.
  • Conduct lectures, tutorials, seminars and practical sessions on the related subject areas,
  • Assess achievement of competences targeted,
  • Participate in lesson assessment in order to review and improve the best quality of teaching and learning,
  • Provides technical assistance to professionals, with all aspects of the care, protection, and maintenance of woody plants, especially trees, in urban settings
  • Provide research and innovation support to the department, by Conducting experiments, studying various aspects of plant cultivation, propagation, production, pest control, etc.
  • Provides skills in agronomical data analysis and interpretation using different software such as: SAS program, GenStat, STATA etc..... Involves research (such as field trials and test demonstrations) and providing educational opportunities for growers.
  • Participate in regular research and review of course content and materials, to stay up to date with international standards and ensure that course design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the institution and department Involves planting and maintaining plant collections in naturalized, systematic, or aesthetic arrangements.
  • Participate in internship monitoring,
  • Provide individual support to students (guidance and counseling), Take part in technical and pedagogical reinforcements initiatives, Use and manage properly the available equipment,
  • Proper provide pedagogical documents and administrative papers related to administrative files, Keep updated about current educational trends,
  • Coordinate and report on the academic activities of each subject taught. 

 Minimum Requirement               

  • PhD in Horticulture, Crop Science, Plant Physiology, Plant breeding and Biotechnology, agronomy from a recognized university with bachelor's in Horticulture or crop science is a must.
  • The candidate should have 5years in applied agricultural research projects and at least 2 years teaching experience, or 
  • Master's degree in Horticulture, Crop Science, Plant Physiology, Plant breeding and Biotechnology, agronomy from a recognized university with bachelor's in Horticulture or crop science is a must.
  • The candidate should have l0 years in agricultural research projects and at least 5 years teaching experience at University/ Polytechnic.
  • Teaching responsibilities at Polytechnics is an added advantage.     

Required competencies and key technical skills   

  • Teaches horticulture or related subjects at TVET colleges or at university
  • Skills in production of different horticulture crops
  • Abilities to Identify strategies for efficient and abundant production, harvest, and storage of high-quality crops (food, flowers, and spices)
  • Skills on construction and maintenance of a greenhouse
  • Ability to Understand hardscape and greenspace problems and identify source of the problem Recognize the potential impact of biotechnology on the environment
  • Understand the future of genetics through professional development,
  •  Skills in Providing educational opportunities for Extension agents and conducts applied research
  • Proven experts in horticultural advice to businesses and growers.
  • Specialized in determining the cause of various plant problems, which can include plant diseases, insects, and cultural problems. Provides pest management solutions.
  • Studies plant diseases, their cause, and their management.
  • May be involved in teaching, research, diagnostic work, or agribusiness sales.
  • Plant, transplant, maintain, and harvests nursery crops.
  • May be involved in grafting and other propagating methods.
  • Skills on how to apply appropriate plant management involving pruning, training, plant growth regulators and environment (light, nutrition, water and soil)
  • Installs, operates, and repairs irrigation systems at various locations, such as athletic fields, farms, golf courses, greenhouses, and nurseries.
  • Understand the Principles of genetics and the use of genetics for plant improvement
  • Produces new and improved plant varieties. Positions with arboreta, biotechnology firms, botanical gardens, colleges/universities, consulting firms, government agencies, and research and development departments in large corporations.
  • Inspects plants in commercial nurseries, garden centers, orchards, field plantings, as well as county, state, or national entry/exit points, to ensure material is free of specific insects or diseases.

  • Experience in curriculum and course development, assessment and education technologies.
