Job Description

Services according to MSF protocols and procedures, in order to improve adolescents SRH care and HIV psychological condition, respecting their confidentiality and appropriate ethics, keeping records and updates in patients file and medical database regularly.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Offer and perform nursing care and provide specific psychosocial care/counseling for adolescents and children living with HIV/AIDS at various levels of the HIV management cascade from: VCT, ART initiation and follow-up, second line treatment, TB/DR TB, PMTCT, SGBV, KS) VL and Enhanced Adherence Counselling (EAC) and second line ART Ensure Viral Load suppression checks are performed every twelve months and results recorded in patients’ files.
  • Actively promote the availability of nursing care including counselling services and carry out, individual or in group counselling, basic psychosocial care to adolescents in Mbare/Epworth clinics and in the community to patients, their families (when needed).
  • Refer patients to social worker and other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary, to propose the best support available.
  • Able to perform clinical consultation of HIV/TB patients, treatment of Opportunistic Infections (OI) and refer where appropriate.
  • Ensure adolescents are properly received in the department those with lack of autonomy are assisted, especially regarding their HIV status, personal hygiene etc.
  • Ensure ART medications maintenance and other drugs are in supply to ensure quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.
  • Ensure (GXpert Cartridges, TB LAM tests plus other tests) management system is to avoid stock ruptures in collaboration with partners implementing HIV programs, before patients visit for refills every 3 months.
  • Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Nursing with valid registration with the Nursing Council of Zimbabwe in line with the Health Professions Act.
  • Degree or Diploma in Counselling.
  • Rapid HIV testing certificate.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Working experience with an international NGO is an asset.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office packages a must, with good reporting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, cultural sensitivity, open mindedness, patience, and diplomacy.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in line with medical ethics.
  • Good command of written and oral English and a local language.
