Duties and Responsibilities
- Daily supervision of the Research and Innovation Accounts Office
- Reviewing all payment requisitions for accuracy and completeness
- Checking payments for accuracy before authorisation
- Ensuring that all payments are within budget confines
- Posting Receipts and Payments into the Accounting System timeously
- Ensuring accuracy and completeness of all Research and Innovation section accounts
- Assisting in Financial and Management Reporting for the section
- Payroll Accounting - Ensuring Projects’ personnel costs are accounted for correctly
- Reviewing all reconciliations timeously and on a monthly basis
- Review Funding Agencies financial reports for accuracy and completeness
- Posing transactions into the Accounting system
- Ensuring accuracy of all transactions in the Accounting system
- Administering projects staff advance
- Reviewing and Recommending Improvements to the Research and Innovation section Internal Control Systems
- Liaison with bankers, creditors, internal and external auditors; and other relevant parties
- Preparation of Audit Schedules and attending to Auditors’ requests / queries
- Ensuring proper safekeeping of all accounting records
- Any other duties as assigned by the Bursar or Deputy Bursar
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in Accounting from a reputable University
- Possession of a professional Accounting Qualification
- Masters’ Degree in Accounting would be an added advantage
- Extensive Practical knowledge of Pastel Evolution Accounting System
- At least 3 years’ experience in a similar position / role
- Experience in managing Donor Funds will be an added advantage
- Excellent Communication, Interpersonal and Leadership Skills
- Attention to Detail
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
