Job Sikhala Falls Sick In Prison

Jailed CCC vice chairman and Zengeza West MP, Job Sikhala, has reportedly fallen sick while detained at Chikurubi Maximum Prison.

Renowned journalist and documentary filmmaker, Hopewell Chin’ono said Sikhala’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, asked to call a private doctor to attend to the politician who was vomiting. Chin’ono tweeted on Sunday:

Job Sikhala’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa has received a call from Chikurubi prison asking her to urgently get a doctor for the political prisoner and MP.

His wife confirmed to me that she also got a call letting her know that Sikhala is vomiting, she is now on her way to prison.

In another tweet, Chin’ono said Sikhala was suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea and was unable to walk. He said:

I have just spoken to Job Sikhala’s wife. She was not able to see the political prisoner at Chikurubi because he is too weak to walk.

A doctor hasn’t attended to him yet. She said he is vomiting and suffering from severe diarrhoea. She saw his co-accused, Godfrey Sithole.

Sikhala has been in pre-trial detention for almost three months over charges of inciting violence and obstructing the course of justice.

He has repeatedly been denied bail by both Magistrate Court and the High Court.
