'Illegal Immigration Burdening South Africa's Health System'

'Illegal Immigration Burdening South Africa's Health System'

Undocumented foreign nationals have been accused of straining South Africa’s health delivery system resulting in locals failing to receive healthcare services.

Johannesburg’s MMC for Health and Social Development, Ashley Sauls, on Saturday told eNCA that illegal migrants are putting pressure on the country’s health system. Said, Sauls:

This is the problem that South Africans are facing. I am part of this government and I am saying we take responsibility.

If we take responsibility, we are then going to openly and transparently look at what the issue is.

We cannot tip-toe around the issue. If the issue is uncontrolled, illegal immigration will continue burdening our health systems, and it is negatively impacting South African citizens and we have got to ask: What are the solutions? What should we do?

Sauls’ remarks come after a video went viral in South Africa showing pregnant women sleeping on the floor at a hospital in Johannesburg.

South Africa is home to millions of foreigners fleeing civil war, drought, and joblessness among other things from their home countries.

This has, however, resulted in the emergence of anti-African immigrant movements in South Africa such as Operation Dudula that accuse foreign nationals of taking their jobs and involvement in drug dealing.

i have to agree with South Africans sometimes. There is a lot of illegal foreigners in South Africa. South Africa is not a super economy that can accomodate for more foreigners and immigrants. It's not like these foreigners create companies that help locals, 99% of these foreigners (more often than not Zimbabweans) just put tuckshops and one man saloons that benefit themselves and doesn't give back to South africa's economy. Let's assess the situation before we make any harsh accusations. South Africa has been habouring Zimbabweans since 2006 and during the 2008 era, let's be grateful. South Africa has helped a loy of our brothers and sisters, vamwe vakatovaka dzimba nekutenga moto nemari yeku South Africa. The real person to blame here is Zanu PF for mantaining a crippled economy and doing nothing feasible to procreate our economy (without even discussing corruption, looting etc). Zanu PF is a regional cancer as it now burdens other countries e.g Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa with immigrants who're fleeing poverty. At the end of the day it's high time South Africa gets rid of these immigrants nguva yareba, 10+ years ndekuchengeta mabonga. Chiisiyai i yamwise vana vayo. It's about time, Zimbabweans in South Africa come home and help build the economy with CCC.
