Harare Man Arrested For Growing Marijuana At A Church

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of Lawrence Mutizwa (54) in connection with unlawful cultivation of dagga (mbanje/marijuana) at Pinnacle Baptist Church Stand in Harare.

In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZRP said police officers found 700 plants at the crime scene. Reads the statement:

On 06/01/23, Police in Harare acted on received information and arrested Lawrence Mutizwa (54) in connection with unlawful cultivation of 700 plants of dagga at Pinancle Baptist Church Stand, Westlea.

Zimbabwe authorised the growing of marijuana for medicinal purposes and those who wish to practice farming have to get a licence from the government before they start growing.

Possession of marijuana is still illegal if unauthorised.

Several people have been arrested since 2018 when the growing of marijuana was legalised in Zimbabwe.
