Harare Council Increases Water Supply To Residents

The Harare City Council (HCC) says it has secured more water treatment chemicals which has resulted in improved pumping from its largest water treatment plant, Morton Jaffray Water Works.

Last week, HCC was forced to temporarily shut down both Morton Jaffray and Prince Edward Water Works due to the unavailability of chemicals.

However, in its latest update on the water situation on Wednesday night, HCC said the situation is slowly improving. Read the notice:

The City of Harare would like to advise residents and stakeholders that the chemical supplies situation is slowly stabilising.

This follows the closure of Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant on Wednesday last week due to supply chain challenges that were affecting the availability of water treatment chemicals.

The City resumed pumping at Prince Edward Water Works on August 5, 2022 and Morton Jaffray, albeit not at full scale on August 6, 2022.

As supplies of aluminium sulphate and chlorine gas improve we will increase pumping into the Central Business District and western suburbs by tomorrow (Thursday 11 August 2022).

City of Harare will continue engaging suppliers to ensure seamless water supply schedules are maintained.
