Four-Year-Old Leon Tadiswa Seeks Assistance To Undergo Liver Transplant
The family of 4-year-old Leon Tadiswa Shumbairerwa who is now confined to a nine-kilogramme oxygen tank that assists him in breathing after being diagnosed with liver cirrhosis is seeking financial assistance to have him flown to India for surgery.
Liver cirrhosis is a condition where scar tissue gradually replaces healthy liver cells, and the condition becomes serious in that it can start blocking the flow of blood through the liver.
Tadisa’s Aunt Ruvimbo Chingwenya told ZBC News that the required money is beyond their reach. She said:
I am Tadiswa’s mother’s sister and I am appealing to Zimbabweans and everyone for assistance as Tadiswa is running out of time. He needs to go to India for surgery and we need US$40 000 for his treatment. We are also struggling to have his oxygen tanks as they cost around ZWL$5 000 and each tank lasts 12 hours.
Tadisa has since undergone several blood tests, scans, x-rays and a liver biopsy all in an effort to see him get treated and go back to being the bubbly child he is.
