Four People Arrested For Illegal Possession And Selling Of Firearms And Ammunition

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of people in two different incidents for illegal possession and or selling of firearms and ammunition. In a statement seen by Pindula News, police urged members of the public to take advantage of the presidential amnesty on voluntary surrender of firearms and ammunition that was announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa last month. Reads the statement:

The ZRP urges the public to take heed of the Presidential Firearms Amnesty and voluntarily surrender illegally possessed or unlicensed firearms and ammunition to the Police. On 10/09/22, Police in Chitulipasi acted on a tip-off and arrested Innocent Mbedzi (28) for possessing a firearm without a firearm certificate. Police recovered a Pietro Berreta pistol with a magazine of seven rounds and an okapi knife from the suspect.

In a different case, ZRP Eiffel Flats arrested Pardon Mboma (20) on 09 September 2022 for possessing four 9 mm live rounds without a licence.

Mboma who was allegedly selling the ammunition later implicated two security guards, John Marandwe (23) and Godfrey Matika (47) who are employed by a local security company as the suppliers of the ammunition.

The arrests come at a time when crimes involving guns have been on the rise in recent years.
