Former Speaker Of Parliament To Contest For Presidency In 2023

Former Speaker of the National Assembly, Lovemore Moyo, said that his party, the United Movement for Devolution (UMD), will contest the 2023 general elections.

Moyo made the announcement at the launch of UMD’s manifesto titled ” A Transformative Agenda for Total Reconstruction of State Power” in Njube, Bulawayo on Saturday.

According to the manifesto, UMD will prioritise devolution to reduce marginalisation, underdevelopment, inequality and injustice. Said Moyo:

We are contesting in the 2023 elections and we will start knocking on doors to inform people what we are doing.

Our preparation for the elections starts now and the focus is on building branches.

As a party, we have declared our intentions to be part of the electoral process as we prepare for the next elections.

We are making our views public in terms of sharing our policies as we work towards building a new prosperous and inclusive Zimbabwe

We need to have councillors in council. Devolution does not start with an MP or the president.

Moyo, who was an MDC-T MP for Matobo, formed the UMD after the death of MDC-T president Morgan Tsvangirai in 2018.
