Former Mines Secretary Gudyanga Sentenced To Four Years In Prison
Zimbabwe’s former Mines secretary, professor Francis Gudyanga, was Friday sentenced to four years after he was last week found guilty of criminal abuse of office.
Harare Magistrate Barbara Chimboza, however, suspended 18 months of Gudyanga sentence on condition he restitutes the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) a total of US$25 228.
Gudyanga will serve two and a half years.
He was convicted last week Friday on charges of fraud after receiving US$28 910 board member fees from MMCZ for three years despite its absence.
Gudyanga was charged alongside former mines minister Walter Chidhakwa.

The court heard that sometime in December 2013, Chidakwa corruptly dissolved the MMCZ board and proceeded to illegally appoint Gudyanga to act as the board’s only member.
Over a three-year period, Gudyanga received varying payments monthly for board meetings that were never held.
Gudyanga is among several high profile politicians that have been arrested since the coming in of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, signifying that corruption in the country is deeply-rooted.
Zimbabwe has often been ranked among the most corrupt countries, something that has cost the Southern African country.
Potential investors who depend on statistics from organisations such as the Corruption Perceptions Index and Transparency International have as a result of the rankings avoided Zimbabwe.
