Harare giants Dynamos beat Premier Soccer League (PSL) debutants Sheasham 1-0 in a pre-season friendly played at Ascot Stadium in Gweru today.
The Glamour Boys, who are now coached by Herbert Maruwa after Tonderai_Ndiraya‘s departure, travelled to the Midlands capital with the aim of preparing for the upcoming season.
In Maruwa’s starting eleven were some of DeMbare’s new signings including Arthur Musiyiwa, Kevin Moyo, Jayden Barake and Tanaka Shandirwa.
The John Nyikadzino-coached Sheasham, who won the Central Region Division One to earn promotion to the PSL, started with new acquisitions Leonard Janhi and Diego Makurumidze in the starting eleven.
Bakare thought he had fired Dynamos ahead in the 12th minute when he rounded off Sheasham goalkeeper Liberty Chirava to score from close range but the offside flag was raised.
There were no clear-cut goalscoring opportunities in the first half and it was goalless at the half time break.
Maruwa made three substitutions at the beginning of the first half, bringing on Eli Ilunga for Bakare, Issa Sadiki for Emmanuel Ziocha and Emmanuel Paga for Musiyiwa.
Illunga almost made an instant impact in the 66th minute but his well-taken shot hit the post.
When it appeared the match was headed for a goalless draw, Frank Makarati responded quickly to Nyasha Chintuli’s rebound to score the winner for DeMbare in the 86th minute.
Dynamos, who have not won the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League since 2014, will be expected to challenge for the title in the upcoming season.
