Drugs, Illegal Substances Recovered In Police Raid

Drugs, Illegal Substances Recovered In Police Raid

Police in Bulawayo detained three suspects in the neighborhood of Entumbane and seized narcotics including dagga, alcohol, weight-gain pills, and cough syrups. Among the illegal items were drug-inhalation devices, the infamous “rizzler” smoking paper, skin-lightening treatments, and self-defense sprays.

The operation, according to Bulawayo police spokesman Inspector Abednico Ncube, is only one of several that the police is carrying out in the Entumbane suburb. He said that the raid followed the hospitalisation of 17 young people from the neighbourhood after the bought and used drugs from the neighbourhood.

In the Wednesday early morning raid, Elton Ndlovu (37), Asprila Maphosa (23) and Lydia Ndlovu-Mthikhulu (27) were detained. All of the accused have previously been detained for a variety of offences.

Drug and alcohol abuse in Zimbabwe has reportedly increased in the past few years. The reason range from worsening economic conditions to unemployment, and the availability of cheaper but highly intoxicating alcohol. The alcohol is sold in small bottles enabling prices as low as US 50 cents a bottle.

The drugs and cheap alcohol are easily accessible at houses in mostly the density residential suburbs in the country, who peddle them illegally.

Highlanders are expected to start their pre-season camp this week.

The team completed its medicals on Saturday and will regroup for the pre-season preparations on Monday.

Coach Baltermar Brito is back in the country after a month-long holiday away and will conduct the first session.

Bosso have new players in their books ahead of the new campaign.

The Bulawayo giants recalled keeper Reward Muza from loan at Bulawayo City and promoted 21-year-old Bosso90 captain Gillian Nyathi to the first team.

The club also signed striker Calvin “Kung-fu Panda” Chigonero on a loan deal from ZIFA Southern Region Division One side Talen Vision.

Defender Andrew Tandi is expected to work under Brito for the first time after recovering from a long-term injury.

The centre-back fractured his right fibula (calf bone) and dislocated his ankle during a league match against Dynamos in May 2022.

Highlanders are expected to sign a few more players before the season starts.

The 2023 Castle Lager Premiership is scheduled to kick off in the first weekend of March.

Highlanders vice-captain Nqobizitha Masuku has left the club to join Botswana top-flight side Jwaneng Galaxy.

Masuku has parted ways with Bosso on a permanent transfer, having joined the Bulawayo giants in 2018 as free agent following his release at Zambian side BuildCon.

He was under contract at Highlanders until 2025.

“The club would like to announce the departure of Vice Captain Nqobizitha Masuku,” Highlanders said in a statement.

“Masuku has completed a permanent move to Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana. We are grateful for the contribution he made to the club during his stay at Bosso. We wish him well in his new endeavors.”

The transfer comes after Masuku had trails in the Middle East in July last year but a deal could not be completed.

The midfielder trained with Al Rams of the UAE First Division League but returned to Bulawayo after failing to secure a transfer.
