The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it is investigating police officers who allegedly forced an elderly suspected thief to eat raw goat meat.
The incident allegedly occurred at Guyu Police Station in Matabeleland South Province during interrogation.
ZRP national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident. He said:
We are investigating this case and the public should know that this matter will not be swept under the carpet.
In video footage which has emerged, an elderly man, who identified himself as Rich Malinga, confesses to stealing and skinning a goat, during interrogation by police officers.
Responding to a female police officer, Malinga said he found many goats in his field and hit one. He said the goat died and he skinned it.
The police officers then ordered Malinga to eat the raw meat and he complied.
