Cloudy New Year: Zimbabwe Weather Report And Forecast - 30/12/22 - 01 Jan 2023

The Meteorological Services Department in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection reported that there were thunderstorms and some rains in some parts of the country. In a report and forecast seen by Pindula News, MSD said Saturday should be mostly cloudy. We present the forecast which is valid until Sunday 01 January 2023:

PREAMBLE

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS FRIDAY 30 DECEMBER 2022 VALID UNTIL SUNDAY 01 JANUARY 2023.

Moisture entered through the northeastern parts of the country and resulted in thunderstorms in parts of Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces. However, the rainfall amounts were below 10mm. Meanwhile, more moisture is entering the country through the southeast. The winds driving this moisture are relatively cool

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, SATURDAY 31 DECEMBER 2022

It should be mostly cloudy across the country. Isolated thunderstorms and warm daytime conditions are anticipated in areas such as Matabeleland North, Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Manicaland and all Mashonaland Provinces; while provinces such as Masvingo, Matabeleland South and Bulawayo Metropolitan are expected to be windy and mild with light rain and drizzle. An odd rumble of thunder remains probable.

IMPACTS

• Lightning strikes remain a threat to humans and livestock, as well as infrastructure.

• Localized heavy rains may reduce visibility in a few areas, more so at night.

• Mosquitoes proliferate during this season.

• Temperature fluctuations may affect the health of vulnerable members of society.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

• When thunder roars, go indoors. Where possible, stay indoors during thunderstorms. Note that lightning can strike from a large distance.

• Avoid contact with water or metal objects including farming equipment when lightning is visible, even from a distance. Umbrellas are not safe during storms, raincoats are better, best is to be indoors.

• Insure crops against adverse weather such as hailstorms and flash flood damage

• Persons in Malaria prone areas should take necessary precautions (insecticide spraying, applying mosquito repellents, sleeping under mosquito nets). Ensure areas that store stagnated water are eliminated or reduced; these tend to be breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Where elimination is not possible, the ponds can be treated to reduce the proliferation of these vectors.

• Ensure that the elderly, young and persons of an ill disposition are kept warm.

WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR SUNDAY 01 JANUARY 2023.

Cloudy, windy and mild morning conditions are anticipated in southern parts of Midlands, Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland with light rain and drizzle in places. It should become less cloudy towards evening. Mostly cloudy and warm conditions are expected in Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland North, northern areas of the Midlands, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces, becoming mild towards evening.

You are right, MSD needs more advanced technology to forecast so that they increase accuracy. Zvamamanje our old machines are failing to give accurate information pertaining weather and that have negative impacts to most of their reports... Therefore, much has to be done I'm sure cyclone Idai gave us a lesson on the need for seriousness 🌦️🌥️☀️🌄☀️💫⭐🌧️⛅⛈️🌨️☔

@g 4 weeks ago

It's mushe akakuudza kuti MSD is a prophetic office ndiani? They simply study weather patterns and anticipate based on outcomes of their studies.
