By-elections Update: Voting Close At 7 pm, Grace Period To Those That Delayed Opening

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has said polling stations closed at 7 pm for voting in this Saturday’s by-elections.

The electoral body, however, said if a polling station was not opened at 7 am, it will be allowed to open until the cumulative time it has been opening is 12 hours.

Updates received from various polling stations across the country suggest that almost all stations opened at 7 am while a handful might have delayed by about 10 minutes. Giving an update Saturday evening, ZEC said:

Polling stations along Kirkman that opened at 0700hrs in the morning will close at 1900hrs and if they delayed opening they will ensure that polling is 12hrs thus will cover for the delayed time.

Reports suggest that around 1830 hours, voters were no longer coming to to polling stations.
