Benni McCarthy Tells Manchester United Players "To Be Here Is A Privilege"

Former Bafana Bafana striker, Benni McCarthy has told Manchester United players that to be at the club is a privilege they should grab.

McCarthy who always wanted to play for United, but never fulfilled that dream, was recently appointed as a first-team coach by the Red Devils.

He told MUTV recently that he was just excited and happy to be at Old Trafford where he would want to help the players make a difference to United this season.

McCarthy said his wish was to see a “completely revived United, a hungry bunch of players and a team that’s going to be able to challenge to get into the Champions League and change the dynamics of the Manchester Citys and Liverpools.” The former FC Porto striker sent a message to the players:

There is no bigger stage than this and to be here is a privilege. They must just grasp the opportunity. When you get the smallest chance that you get, you must grab it with both hands.

Manchester United head coach, Ten Hag suggested that McCarthy, his former player, will focus on the positioning and attacking. He added that McCarthy won’t focus on strikers only, “but also the integration from the full-backs and midfielders.”

Meanwhile, the Red Devils were beaten 2- 1 by Brighton and Hove in their opening match of the 2022/23 season played at Old Trafford.
