Actress Rhoda Mtembe Known As Mai Sorobhi Or Mai Parafin Has Died

Veteran Zimbabwean actress Rhoda Mtembe known as Mai Sorobhi or Mai Parafin has died.

She was 79.

Kuwadzana West Member of Parliament, Mr Johnson Matambo made the announcement this Monday saying she died around 5 am. He said in a message shared on WhatsApp:

Makadii hama mose pano. Ndatambira mashoko anosuwisa. Rhoda Mutembe  avo vanozivikanwa nezita rokunzi Mai Sorobhi kana kuti Mai Parafin vashaika. PaHarare Hospital. Tarasikirwa zvikuru semusha weKuwadzana Constituency uye seNyika.

Pindula News got in touch with the legislator who confirmed the message.

Mai Sorobhi’s daughter, Martha Mtembe, also confirmed the development in an interview with this reporter. She said:

Mhamha (Mai Sorobhi) vakambostroka (mom had a stroke) some four or five years ago and she had recovered. She then suffered another one recently which has now claimed her life.

Asked about funeral arrangements, Martha said they were waiting for senior family members to arrive.

Mai Sorobhi, as she was popularly known, suffered a stroke in early 2019 and her condition deteriorated due to her not getting physio sessions until a well-wisher came to her rescue to assist in that regard.

She rose to prominence in the early 1990s with the drama series ‘Paraffin’ which made her a household name.

So sad. Obviously she is gone as a pauper despite featuring on the dead ZTV as Mai Sorobhi. Only goes to show how this country has been mismanaged. She z not the only one spared. Footballers, musicians et Al all passing away miserably. This country does not only need a revolutionary change we need a God fearing leadership. A leadership who rever human beings. A leadership that is emotionally intelligent. A leadership that can stroll unperturbed in the dirty streets of Kuwadzana. I mean once we have a people oriented gvt musicians, actors, footballers will be recognized. The gvt of the day emphasizes on collapsing coup soldiers. And rogue fake war veterans.
