"Absentee" ZANU PF MP Hits Back At Chiefs

Buhera North legislator, William Mutomba (ZANU PF) has chided chiefs who called him an absentee MP, saying they should go for mental check-ups to ascertain if they are okay upstairs.

Mutomba defended his record, arguing that he initiated and completed several major projects in his constituency.

Speaking to The Mirror, Mutomba claimed to have constructed 12 dams, sunk 43 boreholes, saw the electrification of more than 30 schools and opened a registry office at Gaza.

Mutomba also said he built several clinics and donated many wheelchairs to physically handicapped people in his constituency using his personal money while some of it came from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). He said:

Chief Chitsungo is sick in the mind and out of order. He needs a psychological check-up. He doesn’t know how development works.

I drilled 43 boreholes, constructed 12 dams and built at least 4 healthcare facilities, including setting up a registry office at Gaza Business Centre.

I facilitated the electrification of more than 30 schools, including Chief Chitsunge’s homestead under the Rural Electrification Program.

Mutomba was referring to one of Buhera’s leading traditional leaders who recently accused him of being an absentee MP, telling a local function that the legislator “stays in Harare”.

Chief Chitsungo alleged Mutomba did nothing for the people for nearly 15 years that he has been in office.

Chief Chitsungo and another traditional leader, Chief Chimombe, both went on to endorse Philip Guyo as their ZANU PF preferred candidate for the coming 2023 elections.

Guyo had invited the chiefs for the handover of a house he built for a visually impaired man at Mbawa Village.

The aspiring MP welcomed the endorsement pledged to move from Chitungwiza where he participated as a ZANU PF candidate in 2018 and lost to an MDC Alliance candidate.
